Bright and Cheery

It was a long week at work. I was SO excited for Friday. I was so excited to be taking Friday pictures, so I jumped for joy. I was so excited I thought about my inspiration style icon of the month, Michelle Obama, and I decided to try copy her style of coordination, and color combination. It fit well with color wheel week.

Style Icon

I was doing some reading today to catch up on politics, and couldn't help but fall prey to the many articles written on Michelle Obama and her style. All I'm saying, I love this woman not just for her taste in fashion, but for who she is, what she stands for, and what she represents. I loved Jackie O. (even though I wasn't born yet, but patterned prom after her)- thanks for stepping the first lady style icon role back up Michelle. If you ever want to go shopping together, seriously, I can probably pencil you in.

Blue + The Amazing Technicolor Dream Skirt

When I pulled out my blues today I realized first of all- I have a lot of blue! It's my favorite color right now, navy in particular. I went with some more spring feeling hues, and realized that since blue is such a neutral (go ahead, you can fight that statement if you want, but I'm sticking by it) that I really could put any color with blue and feel it was a good choice. So, I decided to go with as many as I could in this amazing skirt my dear momsy made for me. I almost forgot I had it, glad I found it in the closet again! I also went a little bolder by mixing the already striped/floral skirt with a polka dot top.

Mediterranean

I couldn't help but venture from my own color goals for a day to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Do you know what state I live in? How could I not! When I read the lovely Kimberly's challenge, I so wanted to jump aboard the Mexican embroidery day. I think I belong in Greece more than Mexico, but I was still happy I tried to be somewhat celebratory even if I am a white girl. Hey I did a spring travel study abroad in college to Mexico, that counts for something right?
Back to colors tomorrow, I'd better go find some sweet blue and red shades for the next two days!

Colorwheel: Purple

I have to admit, this was a hard one for me. I was excited to do something with purple, only to learn I own 2 purple camisoles and this purple shirt. I guess there is the dark purple winter shirt, but when it's 98, that's not going to happen. I think I know what I need to look for- I just never seem to pick out purple when given choices even if I've been told it's the best color for my skin tone. I didn't even buy this shirt, my ex's mom did since she thought I would look nice in purple. Lesson learned, next shopping trip I have an assignment, and after several rearrangements of my outfit, this is the best purple as a main color I could come up with.

Even on a super casual weekend day, I still wanted to play with some colors, I also pattern mixed- I'm loving trying new stuff!

Colorwheel Part II

I think I'm going to keep trying complimentary color combos for the next couple days, I am liking the change in my wardrobe!
Surviving the heat 101: Yes, it's almost 101, getting hot in AZ, and fashion becomes and interesting thing. Most people turn to over sized ill-fitting tanks and short shorts. I plan to stay modest and professional, so things should get interesting as it heats up! The first tip I have for super hot days: Look for cute cotton shirts that can be worn without an undershirt or layering piece. It's too hot for more than one shirt, and this shirt I found at Kohls is indeed a T, but it can stand by itself and keeps things nice and cool.
