The Day My Eyes Glowed In The Dark
I have green eyes, but they also pick up shades from what I'm wearing. My students kept looking at me like they were trying to read my mind this day. When I went to the bathroom i realized my eyes were the shade of my shirt! Crazy! Time to buy more green! How did I miss this realization sooner?

Music Inspiration Challenge- "Don't Stop Believin'" -Journey
I have to start by saying I think this is the greatest song ever written. The rule in my car: when it's on, it's loud and everyone HAS to sing. Thank you little sister- great inspiration! I took the line and character, "Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world/she took the midnight train going anywhere..." I wanted to be that small town looking girl who was ready to ride a train all night in hopes of bigger things. The shoulder bag screams "I'm on a train, I'm a lonely girl, and here's a bag to represent moving on even though we all know movie travel luggage is grossly undersized." I'll quit being goofy and just give you the outfit specs:
Sweater: H&M, $30, Shirt: H&M, $20, Jeans: Silver, gifted (thanks for having a baby older sister), Bag: Old Navy, Shoes: Target, $10, Brooch: NY&Co, $5, Earrings: NY&Co, $5

Music Inspiration Challenge "Blame It On the Girls" - Mika
I thought it would be fun to embed the actual music videos of my outfits at the bottom of the posts. I promise I didn't use this video at all for inspiration. I just heard the song and thought I wanted something quirky, bright, and fun- and I wanted to wear it to work! I thought of Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" with the black, white, and bright lipstick for color inspiration. I found this blazer the other day on wicked awesome sale, and here it all came together- oh and I was feeling quirky, even for my pictures.
Blazer: Romy, $2.80 (Mega after Christmas clearance), Shirt: Romy, $1.80, Pants: NY&CO, $12, Shoes: NY&Co, $12 (I think), Pearl Earrings: NY&Co, $5
Imagine my excitement to find that Mika is wearing the same color combo I dreamed up for this song! Good job quirky dreaming self!
Please Don't Stop the Music...
I'm taking a day break from the music challenge...here's the conventional preppy classic self that I typically am. Don't worry though, I have a crazy Mika outfit that I designed that is even work appropriate...I'll add that spicier number later tonight!
Pants: Gap, $12, Heels: Cupid, $20. Oxford Shirt: NY&Co, $18, Sweater: Target, $20, Earrings: NY&Co, $4

Music Inspiration Challenge- "Flightless Bird," American Mouth – Iron & Wine
Music Inspiration Challenge- Day #1- "Don't Wait" – Dashboard Confessional
I pictured a girl in somewhat classic, somewhat trendy, somewhat rocker clothes running through the streets unable to wait for her romantic interest. When I watched the actual music video after getting dressed, I was pretty please that the director and I had somewhat similar thoughts!

Music Inspired Fashion Challenge
I have to admit another secret...I know, two in one week, brace yourselves! I have a little sister. Not just any little sister, but just about the world's coolest sister ever! She was one of those, kids everyone likes- sweet, artsy, smart, loyal, and just amazing!
I have to admit something else- she dresses WAY better than I do. She is the most original, creative, unique individual. As a high school student she didn't follow any of the trendy teen ways, shunned Aeropostale, Hollister, (insert and other trendy teen store here), she read Nina Garcia's The One Hundred, read Lucky, and created her own style icons. On a huge budget, and with a curvy body, this girl can REALLY work it! She's the one who inspired me to start a blog, and simultaneously started her own. So, if you wanna see one cool college co-ed, with the taste of a super cool 20 something (even though she's a little younger), I will direct you attention to: Eclectic Rocking
We had a fashion text convo the other day, and decided we both wanted to break free of the rut we are in. I'm a little prepster with some feminine/retro flair, she's pretty artsy with a rocker vibe. We were debating how one changes a rut, and where to get inspiration- when inspiration hit! THE MUSIC INSPIRED FASHION CHALLENGE!
We both listen to different tunes, but decided to make a play list for each other to stretch each other's taste. We submitted 12 songs over the weekend to one another, and over the next 3 weeks we have to wear an outfit that could be featured in the music video, reflects the artist, or captures the vibe of the song. I've been stretched just thinking about this! I have a DIY project in mind, and a very abnormal (for me) item to buy!
So stay tuned, the Music Inspired Fashion Challenge begins today!
Feel free to play along with either of our tunes, it will be tons of fun!
Without further adieu, here is my challenge from my sister at eclecticrocking
Don't Wait – Dashboard Confessional
Billie Jean – Michael Jackson
Human – The Killers
Don't Stop Believin – Journey
Day Tripper – The Beatles
Flightless Bird, American Mouth – Iron & Wine

I Heart My Skinnies
I vowed I would let a few years pass and hopefully avoid the skinny jean. I'm kind of in between a pear and an hourglass shape- both shapes usually aren't huge fans of the skinny as far as flattering goes. When my mom found some at Wal-Mart for $10 I thought maybe, just maybe I would wear them one day and just see. Maybe it was the price, maybe it's that I love them in boots, maybe it's that I'm training for a marathon and have more confidence....but I'm lovin' my skinnies! I like them so much, I bought a second pair this week in black!
Jeans: Wal-mart, $10, Boots: Last Chance, $40, Shirt: AE, $15, Sweater: Hollister, $30

Busy
I have to confess, I took this picture about 3 weeks ago during finals week. I've never been under so much stress in my life finishing up the gradebook as a teacher as well as study and take final exams as a student. It's like the two most stressful things that have ever occurred happened simultaneously. I think I woke up that morning knowing my life would be insane, and thought- let's grab my busiest sweater, busiest shirt, and 2nd brightest shoes. Go outfit, you got me through that crazy day!
Skirt: Gap, thrifted, Tights: Wal-mart, Shoes: Last Chance, Shirt: Tommy, Sweater: Anthropologie, Headband: Random swamp meet style store in the mall

The 11 Year Old Vest
Do you have a piece of clothing that you've had forever and still love? Behold, my sweater vest purchased at Abercrombie & Fitch when I was 15, and it was cool. I still love it, if you don't just lie to me and tell me 11 years later I can still pull it off! ;)
Shirt: Aeropostale, $12ish, Vest: Abercrombie & Fitch, $20 (cost per wear is probably $.50 at this point), Skirt: Buffalo exchange, free on clothing exchange, Boots: Last Chance, $40, Earrings: NY&Co, $4...feeling like a Jcrew catalog prepster...priceless

New Year's Party
I have to confess something- I'm kind of goofy. Ok, I'm really goofy. Despite the idea that you think I look drunk goofy, I in fact have never had a sip of alcohol in my life, and never intend to. I am just naturally goofy. I didn't take an outfit pic this night, luckily my friend caught me playing on some mobile chairs in my attire.
This is what I wore to ring in 2010!
Shirt: Hollister, Belt: Tommy, Jeans: Gap, Shoes: Rampage, Shirt: Downeast Outfitters, Earrings: NY&Co
